Fed: Biggest boatload of asylum-seekers arrives = 2

Meanwhile, Australian Law Council president Anne Trimmer called for an urgent review
of mandatory detention, saying the current policy was excessive.

Ms Trimmer said the system was detaining legitimate refugees who had already been traumatised
by their experiences.

"We should instead learn from the experiences of other countries that have handled
asylum seekers in a more humane manner," she says in the September edition of Australian
Lawyer.
