Fed: Treasurer biggest taxer and spender: opposition
CANBERRA, Jan 10 AAP - The opposition said an Auditor-General's report exposed TreasurerPeter Costello as the highest taxing and highest spending treasurer in Australia's history.
"Mr Costello has tried to hide his unprecedented tax grab from struggling familiesby refusing to count the GST as a commonwealth tax," Labor's treasury spokesman Bob McMullansaid in a statement.
"But according to the official audit of the nation's books by Auditor-General Pat Barrett,it's very simple - a commonwealth tax is a commonwealth tax."
