NSW: Used car industry blitz

New South Wales parliament has heard the manager of a used car yard allegedly assaulted
inspectors and ordered his son to get a gun during a government blitz on the industry.

Fair Trading Minister JOHN WATKINS says the Strathfield car employee has since been
sacked and police are investigating the matter.

He's told parliament the used car industry has been put on notice and threats to investigators
won't stop the two month blitz.

Mr WATKINS says there are 4,000 motor dealers in New South Wales, and more than one
million second hand vehicles change hands every year.

He says the new Fair Trading compliance blitz, which began in March and ends this month,
is delivering results.

Mr WATKINS says the two-month blitz is part of a major enforcement program that has
already resulted in 12 convictions.
